What do I do if I receive a Truyu Alert and it was not me?

Some businesses (such as banks, financial services, insurance providers, and other regulated entities) periodically verify customer identity information to make sure their records are accurate and up-to-date. This is a normal part of legal and compliance obligations (e.g., anti-money laundering and risk management). These routine checks may trigger an identity alert even if there’s no fraudulent activity. This is different from suspicious use of your identity, and you don’t need to take action if you recognise the activity.

If you don’t recognise the business, didn’t apply for a product or service, or weren’t expecting an identity check, this may be a sign that someone else is trying to use your details. Follow the recommendations to resecure your information as efficiently as possible and prevent further harm or loss.

For Credit Activity Alerts, you may want to contact the business that made the enquiry or opened the account.

You should also consider placing a temporary ban on your credit file.

You can apply for credit file bans with all of the Australian credit reporting agencies (CRAs), by engaging just one of them and requesting that they place bans with all CRAs if you agree to their terms and conditions.

You can place a ban request at each credit reporting agency using the following links:

Experian: Request a Ban

Equifax: Request a Ban

Illion: Request a Ban
