Where do I report identity fraud?

If you believe your identity has been misused, it’s important to report it as soon as possible.

  1. Contact the business involved
If the alert relates to a specific bank, lender, telco, or other provider, contact them directly first. They can investigate the activity and place protective measures on your account.

  2. Report cybercrime to the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC)
You can lodge a report via ReportCyber:https://www.cyber.gov.au/report-and-recover/report

You’ll usually need evidence of this report to replace your identity documents.

  3. Contact your bank immediately (if financial fraud is involved)
If money has been taken or accounts opened in your name, contact your bank straight away so they can secure your accounts.

  4. Report to IDCARE
IDCARE is Australia and New Zealand’s national identity and cyber support service. They provide free, confidential support and can guide you through the recovery process.

If you need additional support, contact us through the contact form on our website, and we’ll assist you through the process.
